Mr. Foley, this is not the place for any use of profanity. Please direct any political debate to the Politics section here: http://www.mineralrightsforum.com/forum/categories/politics-1/listForCategory
Rick, you'r right about respecting other opinions. A couple of people have said they thought we were sort of family. Well, I know some families with members widely divided on their political views. So they either have to respect each others' thinking or avoid the topic altogether. The flap on our forum is so typical. I see wrongs on both sides: It was a bit harsh to call Foley "a fussy little guy" but I also think it was over the top for Foley to suggest that the creepy "Erik" website was the place for political remarks. (I had to google it to find out what it was) Maybe I didn't catch it all, but I thought Joe's comment about the motel with no air conditioning was just a funny way of saying it seemed like something out of a third world country. As for other political comments, I apparently overlooked them when I skimmed stuff I missed when I wasn't getting the forum emails.
I think the current political weirdness is at the root of all this. Extremism breeds extreme reactions. I was never very interested in politics, always considered myself an independent & voted repub more often than not, but I'm sick of the racial slurs, effigies of the president and impeachment nonsense. I think Sen. McCain hit the nail when he recently called out what he termed the wacko birds. They just make themselves look like sore losers and are undermining the party.
So, having probably put some hackles up, I promise this is my first and last political comment, and I add my vote to keep the side topics such as Linda's travelogs, the lost and found relatives, and the cafe reviews. Re the reviews, I think you guys could get a side-line going there: Have your own rating system and award derricks (of course derricks not stars) for the joints you eat in. Imagine ads & posters boasting "Jimmy Bob's Barbecue, FOUR DERRICKS from the Stephens Co. Minerals Forum" !
Kathlyn, this thing has been blown way out of proportion and all started with a couple of very brief, mildly worded remarks between myself, Clint Liles and Joe Woolston. If you would go back and read them you might understand why I felt compelled to put Lynden in his place. I respect you, Rick and others on the forum and I will abide by the will of the majority. I'm sorry I riled everyone up!
Criticism of a sitting president is an American tradition dating back to the start of our country, there have been several comedians who became quite popular in their time for imitating J.F.K., Nixon, Jimmie Carter and so on. Now that we have a mixed race president it is considered racism. There are "wacko birds" on both sides of the fence. You mention extremism and racial slurs, where is the outrage over the murder of a white man in Duncan Oklahoma? Where are the marchers and cries of hate crimes and racial profiling. Bill Clinton was impeached, was it racism? No it was politics.
Thanks Lea and Lloyd, nice Birthday Cake! Very clever.
Rick I agree with you one hundred percent don't discuss politics or religion a little light hearted back and forth is ok but opinions are like some body part everyone has one but most are considered inane to others.
Rick, that thing we talked about in a sidebar a few weeks ago has been resolved. With the help of an incredible Landman (Woman) in Ok. City. Finally someone listened to me. We can discuss it in a sidebar, however my computer died and they are trying to recover the files. OOPS, Backup.... darn.. Thanks Rick for your experience, expertise and help. Charlie
I have been faithfully following this group since January even though I do not own minerals or surface in the county. I follow it BECAUSE I am interested in the minute details that come out while openly conversing with others with similiar hopes/dissappointments/spelling handicaps (much to be learned if you are paying attention). I just joined today to say that I am very dissappointed that the value of this group TO ME was diminished this week when Linda (and others) shut down conversation because a couple of members voiced an opposing opinion...good for them. I think we ALL should be mindfull of the power of our words and only use them to build up, not tear down.....but by gosh I am who I am. I'm not perfect. But I ain't crawlin' in a hole just to ensure I don't offend anyone. When enough of us lose the courage to speak our mind (even when it may be unpopular), then we will get just what we deserve. If the local chit-chat, displeasure with the president and occasional innuedo diminishes your quality of life...read a book on oil/gas production, google search a good landman, etc. but quit messing with this forum. There must be a reason there are over 200 members and 600 views for this discussion alone. If we all agreed on everything, half of us would be miserable liars all the time. Thanks to all of you who have shared your technical and local knowledge on this forum the last 8 months.
KDM, as a long time member of the Stephens forum I would like to thank you for your kind words. I wouldn't worry that Linda will be quiet for long, I guess you could say she is "irrepressible" (look it up Linda).
Welcome to the group,
Hutch
Yes...Michael it's Warsh and after that you wrench it off so it won't get waudder spots on it! My grandson corrected me because I was saying "That happened on Windsdee" He said Mema it's WednesDAY and when I ask him if he had had supper he said "your evening meal if dinner" but Gary England the Channel 9 weather man says Windsdee and that's good enough for me. And for sure if SUPPER is good enough for the Lord it's good enough for me! Once when our Pastor said we would have the Lord's Supper in the evening someone told him that wasn't Biblical. Don't know which Bible she reads but if it was supposed to be in the morning I think they would have called it "The Lord's Breakfast". I rest my case!
Hutch...You think you're going to hurt my feelings by using those big words that I don't know the meaning of but you're not~because my grandson will tell me what it means~and it'll probably be true~and who can get mad at the truth? Well, maybe the Pharisees!! "I am the truth, the way and the life~no man goes to the Father except through me" signed Jesus Christ!
OOPS...at it again and this time it may be unforgivable~It's "I am the way, the truth and the life" not "the truth, the way............. and it's no man COMES to the Father......." Nope...I'm okay...that's NOT the unforgivable sin....but I am sorry I changed the wording and will be more careful next time.
Amen! Hope all is well in the Washita valley tonight.
Linda, being from Oklahoma I always said "warsh". My first wife, a yankee, broke me of it. My second wife(of 30 years), a Midwesterner, has me back to "warsh again.
My first daughter in law's great grand dad was an English Professor in a College so right off the bat when my son's started to marry we began to get English lessons. Now, the lady he is married to is a English teacher in high school so the lessons continue (passed on through the kids because she doesn't correct us) My other daughter in law was raised by her dad who is part Okie Indian so she talks like us Amerricuns. lol I think we are a hopeless case!
Sadly still another death to report in our community this morning. Long time friend and retired oilfield worker Jack Ince lost his son, David, last night. From what I was told David and his son had come to check on his dad as he does so often. He had some chest pains but wouldn't go to the doc. It was his heart and he passed away sometime during the night. My sister said he was in her class in school and she is 57yr. young so guess he was around that. She said he was really a nice guy. When the pastor ask my husband to say the prayer at church the other night he said "Lord, we've had a rash of funerals lately. Please quit taking my friends so fast I don't have enough of them left." But the Bible says our ways are not his ways and he knows what is best for us so we have to leave it in his hand as hard as that is sometimes. Our hearts and prayers go out to Jack and his family.
Michael, when I introduced my fiancée to my grandfather about 40 years ago he looked at her and chuckled and said "why, she ain't no bigger than a bar of soap after a hard days warshin'".

O.K. Lloyd see you there but in Oklahoma isn't it "warsh" ?
A brief rain here today gave a tiny bit of welcome moisture because we are nearly right back to the same drought situation that we had at the start of the summer. Everything but the grasshoppers and Johnson Grass growing in the ditches is dying from the heat and dryness! For some reason the grasshoppers don't like Johnson Grass (weeds in our books) either!!! But they sure do like our flowers, shrubs and tomato plants. They've stripped and killed the potted plants I had bought to sit on the porch. We've pretty much given up trying to keep a pretty yard this year and will probably have to replant everything next year if we stay here. We've lived in the same home for 32 yrs. now but if we decide to move or just move our heavy furniture out to lay new carpet we'll have to find us some "Muscle for Hire". P. and I have both had back trouble from time to time and our youngest son (the one that lives close has had back surgery last year). He has always been strong as an ox and lifted on heavy stuff until he tore something and had to have it repaired but not before a year of suffering.
Me, I was so looking forward to getting on Medicare and a Suppliment for a long time so I could go see my son's back doctor for what I believe to be a pinched nerve in my back causing my leg and foot to be numb. So I called that Doctor Ordor up by the Oklahoma Spine Instiute where he did son's surgery and the receptionist said they don't take medicare! Kiss my foot!!! I was so disappointed! Didn't know they had a choice as to whether they could take it or not. That may be why some want to get Obama Care. I've never been for it but if all these baby boomers are depending on Medicare and the doctors are going to refuse them as patients we might need to try something else. My friend said, "Oh, yeah, my OBGYN Doctor I've had for years said now he can't see me any longer because I got on Medicare" No, I am not trying nor will I to get in a political discussion. Just an observation through frustration.
Oh, yeah, PLEASE PRAY FOR RAIN AGAIN~IT WORKED LAST TIME!
I'm fixin to git after some of that there warshin myself. Yon't me to hang em over yander or just wrench em and hang em on the line? Makes me no nevermind! Time for bed I've gotten the midnight sillies again! Goodnight ya'll.
