Has anyone heard of this company? or Blake Barnett?
I and some family members received large checks, through certified mail, from Stockyards Energy for the two-year lease extension option for some property in Winkler Co, currently leased by Continental Resources. This is what Blake said in a phone call, and that Continental uses SELS to pay for lease extension bonus. But the company only sent a check and no detail. We are very hesitant to deposit check without more info, but CR, SELS are so slow to respond to questions. Is this a scam? They sure went to a lot of trouble.
Does your lease with Continental Resources have an extension provision, e.g., the lease has an initial term of three years after which time if there was no drilling Continental Resources would be required to remit a check in a specified sum per acre by a specific date? Did Stockyards Energy Land Services LLC do the original leasing for Continental Resources. SELS has a website and appears to be a larger company with a number of notable oil companies as clients. Why not contact Continental Resources? Also ask SELS to email you an explanation. I have received an overnight mail with a check once when the initial term of a lease was ending and the company wanted to comply to the letter of the language of the lease. That check was welcomed. As I recall, there was not much paperwork involved as all parties knew what was in the lease.
Definitely be cautious. Years ago, we actually had some paperwork that looked like a lease. The company was BUYING the minerals. The company was being sneaky about their wording.
Yes, SELS is a reputable land services company in Ft. Worth. They wouldn’t send you a check for no good reason. I’m under contract with them. If you still have trouble getting answers from the individuals that you were in contact with, I’d be glad to help.
