My Grandfather, Ed Burkett, sold this to a Mr Paul Odom in 1983 and 1984. There was a gas well drilled and the heirs have been receiving small checks until around July 2019 from Sunoco. I think Sunoco sold, not sure of terminology, to Native. We have not received any money from 2019 to present. Is anything happening there and if not will there ever be a time we, Burkett heirs, would be able to lease this? Is there a time limit for Native or who ever has the property? Also, is anything happening on 9 9N 4W? Thanks
@scott_wilmoth, looks like there are two producing wells in 3-9N-4W, with a third well that hasn’t posted production since 2022. The production is at a relatively low level (less than 1000 MCF per month) and it may depend on where your ownership is in the section.
The Marchant 1 well, 35-087-35770, is located in the SW NE and is operated by Native Exploration.
The Griffith 1-3 well, 35-087-21117, is located in the NW and is operated by BCE Mach.
The Thomas 1-3 well, 35-087-00044, is located in the south half and is operated by Native Exploration.
There is a well with surface penetration in 9-9N-4W, but the production from that well will be in sections 16 & 21. (Tomcat 1621)
Section 9 should be open for leasing, but most of section 3 is probably held by production at this time.
Thanks so much for info. Beverly
Is there a time limit on a lease if not producing on the well, The Thomas 1-3, this is the well we had been receiving money on? Thanks
@Scott_Wilmoth, when production officially ends can be a gray area and often depends on the actual lease and upon the specific situation. Your lease may address how long a well can be “shut-in”, or a well that is just waiting for a repair may also be considered producing for some time, even though it hasn’t produced for a few months. The production numbers often lag a month or two, or a few, so it is best to be patient since production may pop up again in the coming months.
