As mineral rights (oil, gas and minerals) owner on 137 acres in Dickinson County, Michigan, a land agent sent a contract on behalf of Circle Power Renewables, for a solar project at the site of the old Groveland Mine. They’ve offered $1000 as a total offer to execute their Surface Waiver agreement. Any recommendations or information would be most appreciated. Thanks!
Proceed very cautiously! See if you can find an attorney that is knowledgeable about solar leases. You want to make sure that you retain the ability for your assets to be mined in the future. Oil and gas would have different requirements than hard minerals. Some solar agreements have fine print that prevents that. Talk to your neighbors and see if any of them found good counsel. Read up on the offering company and any other similar ones. Look online in the county and see if any agreements have been filed of record.
