I can pull up on the RRC web site oil and gas maps with API numbers. Has faint section League numbers. I would like to find minerals acreage that I own in the S/2 of Section 8 League 23, McCulloch County School Land, Hockley County, Texas. Any help is appreciated
You need to research the land records. I use a subscription service called TexasFile. However, the County Clerk lists a public search at the following site: https://hockley.tx.publicsearch.us/ You will need to use the advanced search. You can search on your name, the name of the person you got it from, or on legal descriptions, etc. The Spanish land records permeate this area, and sometimes labors and leagues are used rather than sections and townships, etc. It is not for the faint of heart. I own some farms and minerals in league 24 and league 25.
Here’s a link to a GLO map of the area you described which appears to be part of Abstract 156. If you want to determine the current surface ownership try Hockley County Appraisal District’s GIS map. https://historictexasmaps.com/collection/search-results/92212-ed-f-mann-and-ed-liedtkes-subdivision-of-leagues-22-and-23-mcculloch-county-school-land-hockley-county-texas-twichell-survey-records
