I believe that you are correct in that these terms are synonymous and interchangeable. I think that the clauses gives the lessee the right to continue any drilling that was begun before the lease expires. Without this clause, some States require actual production within the primary period of the lease. I would say it is protective wording for the lessor as many operators wait to drill sometimes a few weeks prior the lease expiration.
I hate to disagree with someone as learned as Charles Mallory but know from experience that where large acres are involved in a lease or farm out, all three clauses have entirely different meanings and consequences to the parties.
Don't make a deal on titles anyway. Read the clauses for meaning. They must stand on the wording not what the title may or may not imply.
