Is there a concern that we will end up back here we were a few years back with prices for gas depressed because there was not enough room in the pipes to take it away? If so, is anyone - Kinder Morgan or others, planning another pipeline for natural gas?
Lots of opinions on the subject but with recent pipes coming online and the use of “bitcoin” mining for trapped gas a well as some predictions of changing underutilized pipes for NG, capacity seems fine for right now. Prices may still remain depressed but should drive less flaring. Basin take away can also differ from specific lease takeaway depending on Operator and time it takes to connect gathering line.
I listened to four Exploration & Production companies downplay the looming Permian gas takeaway tightness expected in late 2023-2024. Essentially, they predicted takeaway will be solved by Texas’ free market, hydrocarbon friendly government. Coterra said the takeaway worries are “overblown” and always get solved in Texas, “God Bless Texas” (good home for hydrocarbons). Pioneer is “not worried”, Permian needs new pipeline every few years (Sheffield figures new pipes will be laid in due course). Devon said gas takeaway will tighten 2023-24 but does not foresee shut-ins “feel good about moving molecules”. Matador is aware of the Waha problem but “we’re ahead of the problem” (didn’t say how).
Thanks so much for your insight!
I was hoping against hope someone would say a new pipeline is on the way but heard nothing of the sort. Reading more articles saying it may get tough at the end of 2023.
