Texas Record Keeping

I am curious how everyone else is keeping tack of mineral ownership. I have several mineral deeds across Texas & Oklahoma. My goal is to create a master list of all “properties” if you will. Oklahoma is easy because they use the Public Land Survey System (PLSS) whish gives you Section, Township, & Range. Texas on the other hand, is based on Spanish land grants. It almost seems impossible to keep tack of without have a map outlining what is yours. What have you found to be the best system to organize land in Texas?

TEXAS > COUNTY > ABSTRACT # or TEXAS > COUNTY> SURVEY NAME

Thanks, J. McConnell

I use Excel and do OK by State, County, township, range, section. TX by State, County, Block, Abstract, section

If you use excel, you can insert into the spreadsheed a map, photo, or a shot from google earth into the line of the property.

You put forth some great questions. Barnes and Gary provided you with a good start. If you want to this digitally, then you have several options dependent upon your budget and producing status. For producing properties, you can use MiQ Essential for no cost in order to track wells, production/revenue and activity levels. I would add to Gary’s suggestion using Google Drive, or similar, to store a pdf of each deed or related document in a folder. You can then link the folder to a spreadsheet. This is a simple system as long as you do not have a great deal of activity and you have a basic understanding of digital products.

I appreciate the feedback. I have done just that. Created a Google Drive and linked it with Spreadsheets. I am unfamiliar with MiQ Essential though. Perhaps you could elaborate more on that. Are you referring to miq.org?

www.mineraliq .com/ is the web link. This is a service that is a part of Enverus/EnergyLink. Many operators/purchasers use EnergyLink to deliver digital royalty check details to owners as well as other information. I use MiQ Essential casually (currently free) because I use MineralWare to process the digital data from EnergyLink as well as the pdf check details that we receive. I also use MineralWare to track property activity and quicker access to State data. MineralWare is a paid service as well as the higher MiQ products. I believe MiQ processes the State data better than MineralWare, but there is a significant cost difference and I do not believe MiQ will process pdf check details.
