What County agency do I need contact to see if I have title to the mineral rights in that county which I inherited in 2004. I am in possession of three pages from the County Court of Reeves County no.3156" Order Admitting Will To Probate As Muniment of Title" but my name does not show on there? The Application was ordered by Erin Williams of Clayton Williams the oil exploration company. Any thoughts on that would be appreciated
There is not a County agency that will do the title search for you. The records will be held by the County Clerk. Many counties have gone digital to allow for name and tract searches, but I am not sure about Reeves County. Typically you would need someone (usually a land man) to run title for you which means physically going to the County courthouse.
I did a quick search, and it doesn’t seem that digital records are available for instruments prior to 2012. You should find a land man to run title on the tract if you have its identifying information and on your name (and likely the person you inherited from) to determine if you have clear title to the property.
