Family trying to track down paperwork showing when mineral rights/oil and gas interests were acquired by family matriarch in Kay (and Washington) counties so we can transfer them to a trust or have them gifted to descendants before he dies. Oil company has incomplete records and says we have to figure it out for ourselves.
Anyone know of free resources that could help me? Failing that, can anyone recommend a good title company in in the vicinity of Kay and Washington Counties that research local records? (None of the family lives in OK anymore, so going in person to research ourselves is out of the question).
David, you can start with the Oklahoma County Recorders that goes back I think to 1991-92. If you need to go back further you may be able to find a landman that will freelance some of the research you need done, but it won't be free! The county recorder charges to view or to print out copies of leases, etc. $1.00 per page!
Thanks for the suggestions. I've tried online land records without success and I'm reasonably sure the records for this go back well before the early 90's. This would be a lot easier if they were on title to the property rather than just having a mineral/royalty interest.
I'm looking for a title company or landman in OK who can do the research but its not easy to find a reliable local person or company from so far away, which is why I'm trying/hoping to find someone who can recommend someone good.
I live in Kay County and am researching this very thing for our family. If you would like to private message me any surnames, or legal descriptions, I could take a peek. Our family got these minerals from Great, Great Grandmother, who died in 1929, so very well way back before the 1992 year thats available online!!!
I am a landman that worked in Kay County in 2011. If you want to post your legal or message me I would be glad to look and see if it was one of the sections where I ran title. Most of my title was done in Northern Kay County.
