My brother passed away a few years ago. He did not have a will or trust. We inherited mineral rights in Colorado from my dad many years ago. I am interested in understanding what needs to be done to transfer his ownership to me. We live in California.

You may need an affidavit of heirship prepared and filed in the county deed records where the minerals are located, and then send that to the oil company along with a W-9 for each heir. If the minerals are being produced, contact the oil company to find out what else they may need.
