I pray someone here will be my angel of wisdom! In January 1999 my mom donated her mineral rights from 2-3 wells producing in Arkansas. Mom passed in 2008, and I don’t remember getting any pmts but she had been receiving them for years. Then last year I was looking at the unclaimed properties site in La. (Where checks were received by mom) and found 3 claims for royalties in her name. Side note I moved & divorced after the donation. This got me thinking maybe they changed hands. Boy have they ever. At donation it was Sonat(no longer in business) & has passed to EP,Verdun, no ow I’m hitting brick walls . One gave me info on oil wells but moms were gas. All I for sure know is owner# 4963801. And they are possibly in Ouachita counties Arkansas. Can anyone tell me the proper steps to get answers. I can’t afford a succession.
Widowshoemaker, welcome to the forum.
I’d written you a response but then reread what you posted and realized I’d misunderstood an important point, so I deleted that first one and hope these questions are better directed.
When you say your mom donated her mineral rights in 1999 and then died in 2008, am I right in understanding she donated those mineral rights to you? The word “donated” through me off at first. Am I understanding correctly that your mother made a gift to you of her interest in producing wells, and although you don’t remember ever receiving any royalty payments from them, you have now determined those wells are still producing (or were producing up until some time after you received that interest)?
You mentioned talking to three operators, the last being Verdun, and it sounds like that related to you tracking the transfer of those wells from one operator of those wells to the next, but they haven’t been able to pin down the specific royalty interest that your mother, and now you, own. Regarding the brick wall you said you hit, was that with Verdun, and was that because you didn’t have the information Verdun needed to identify the wells you were talking about?
When you received the interest from your mother was that through a deed, and if so did it include a legal description of the property where the mineral interest is located? You mentioned Ouachita County, Arkansas. Have you done any research in the deed records of that county to trace your mother’s interest? What description do you have of the wells…names, date and company who drilled them, who your mother’s mineral interest was leased to? You posted an owner number, did you get that from the Louisiana unclaimed property section or do you have any royalty statements or other documents of your mothers related to that interest?
I’m in Texas, but if you’ll post answers to those questions maybe someone familiar with Arkansas will be able to help you.
I’d normally suggest you posting your questions under the section of the Forum related to Ouachita County, Arkansas but I checked and it looks like nothing has been posted there for many years.
Well I got to the bottom of who my mineral rights landed with. Now I’m trying to find out this: since it passed through different exploration companies during the time I’d forgotten about it, do those companies owe me royalties? Also how can I find out how it’s producing now? The land is in Pope County Arkansas (I was wrong again) the legal description is: LEGAL DESCRIPTION: SEC 23-9N-21W
Try the Arkansas oil and gas website. http://aogc.state.ar.us/welldata/wells/default.aspx
feel your pain! I, too, am trying to figure out a similar set of mineral rights problems. And those legal descriptions, just as will be written in Greek!! Here is one of mine in TX: .001562 RI 0805170 FOLIA BURNS, GENE OIL & GA 0.000B-12 16 PSL SE4 SE4. Hahahaha! Means absolutely nothing to me!! I called the county court clerk in Winkler county, where this resides with the lady, while trying to be helpful, knew nothing!
This is not a legal description. It looks like it might have come off an old ad valorem tax statement. There are 2 Folia wells in SE/4 SE/4 of Section 16, Block B-12, PSL Survey, Winkler County. However, those wells are under RRC Lease 08-14951 (not 08-05170) and last produced in August 2022. The RI reference is to royalty decimal of 0.001562. Gene Burns Oil & Gas Co is former operator. Current operator is A&M Oil & Gas LLC in Kermit with phone of 432-940-8039 - Mario Davila & Alyssa Davila.
This is a .001562 royalty (or decimal) interest * 40 gross acres * 8 = .5 net royalty acres in County Lease ID: 805170, Block 12, PSL (Public School Land) Survey, Section 16, SESE quarter, operated by:
Gene Burns Oil & Gas, Inc.
7611 Doonmore St.
Odessa, TX, 79765-4001
There may also be some wells operated by:
A&M Oil & Gas, LLC
1518 Harrison Dr.
Kermit, TX 79745
