A well in PA in which I have an ownership interest has been shut-in for several months. CHK says that “pipeline pressure in this area has increased to the point where the existing compressor on this location is no longer able to be operated. CHK is examining compressor alterations”. Can someone explain to a neophyte in plain English what this means? TIA.
The pipeline pressure is greater than the producing formation pressure so the well can’t flow naturally. Apparently the compressor isn’t able to overcome the pipeline pressure either. So CHK is going to get a bigger compressor that will allow the well to flow into the pipeline.
Thank you. Do you know what would cause the disparity in pressures?
Old wells lose pressure. They don’t produce forever. Possibly new wells in the area or a new compressor in the line contribute to higher line pressure.
