Comstock Resources currently has about 400,000 Acres leased in the Western Haynesville Play in Leon and adjoining Counties reported to us from a CPL that has been involved in the Play.
Yes, Comstock reported in their latest quarterly earnings call that their Western Haynesville position was now 450,000 net acres. It may be even larger, as I believe there is acreage leased in Cherokee and Houston Counties that hasn’t been disclosed yet.
Here’s a map of the surveys that contain acreage leased by Comstock. This does not include any additional surveys that are associated with the 189,000 net acres they acquired from Hilcorp.
So far I am not aware of anyone receiving offers to lease from Surprise Valley or any broker that can be tied to Comstock in Houston County YET! The Northwest area of Houston County is an old “Deep Bossier” play area. Maybe they are waiting to see how the Presidential Election will turn out.
Key Exploration has done the Houston County leasing, along with leasing in Cherokee County. My guess is that they are leasing for Comstock.
