Anyone out there have any idea what Whiting’s intentions are in Pecos County ? They’ve drilled a couple of horizontals with fairly good results ( if you can believe what they put out ) but they seem to be moving very cautiously and not throwing much capital into Pecos … Getting frustrated watching wells getting drilled all around us but not on our land blk OW 20 miles NW Ft Stockton
Mary,
Google Whiting and you will find it is scheduled to close on 4 acquisitions in the Bakken (North Dakota) by the end of the month and it is also out raising over a billion dollars to pay for acquisitions and operating capital.
I imagine that with these large deals going on, it will return its focus to other areas. Don't be surprised if areas outside the Bakken are suppressed or traded. Whiting is in a high technology game and know they will falter if their talents are not properly applied.
Whiting has been very active in Ward County.
We are in same situation. They were scheduled to drill 13 wells in 2013. I called them but they said we weren’t on the schedule for 2013. They hit a couple of good ones like the May lease west of the Coyanosa highway and seem to be concentrating on the area 6-9 miles SW of Coyanosa which is closer to the play… However Terrace hit the big one 10 miles south of Stockton which could move the hot spot south.
Don't get too excited about the Terrace completion east of Ft Stockton. Despite the 1200+ BO per day IP (rate from early in post frac flowback period), well was down to 400 BOPD within a week and on artifical lift 1-2 weeks late. Very rapid decline.
All this data on the Terrace wells in the University lands website in Block 23 for Pecos County.
Attached is PDF showing Whiting permits in Permian Basin in past year. Over 80 in this area. Obvious focus in Ward County - which mirrors industry's success trend in the Delaware basin.

So… Just got a letter from Whiting that they have sold my lease to Brigham Exploration which is owned by Norway Co Statoil . I’m assuming it’s not just my lease but the whole Big Tex . 2 questions are - how does this kind of news stay under the radar and what does this mean for my future as an oil princess ? What does it mean for the 2 yr renewal of my lease due up in 3 months ? Any good guesses out there ??
Assume that Brigham wants to do some drilling in this area or they wouldn't have paid the price to get this acreage from Whiting. I doubt if Brigham will let your lease expire considering that they just bought this area.
2011 article about Statoil purchasing Brigham with focus on Williston Basin Bakken play.

Here is old news about Statoil going after Whiting. Figure they (Statoil) bought the entire company (Whitiing has major North Dakota Bakken assets). But also figure that Statoil (Brigham) will do something with the Permian basin assets - perhaps even sell them to a third party.

Re: Whiting October 2013 Investor Presentation
I am confused after seeing this presentation - major emphasis on Bakken / North Dakota but some very positive slides on their Permian Basin efforts near end of presentation.
No mention of divesting any or all of Permian to Statoil / Brigham
