Why is a Broker Involved?

I just completed negotiations with EP Energy for a right of way and surface use agreement on our property. To my surprise, the checks were issued from Transcontinental Oil Company out of Denver, and not EP. Any thoughts on why a broker was used?

Many operators use brokers for leasing and surface agreements. It is a common practice and EP Energy has done it for a long time.
