Can anyone explain the concept of Zip Fracing and the positives versus the negatives to regular fracing? Which companies are utilizing this method in Grady County?
The easy answer is that zipper frac’ing is when a several wells that are usually from the same pad or close by pads are frac’d at almost the same time instead of individually drilled and then individually frac’d- each one stand alone. They drill all the wells first and then frac. Saves quite a bit of money by only having one set of transportation costs, set up costs, tear down costs, etc.
There are many different versions of zipper fracturing depending upon the preferred outcome. You can Google it and see videos and explanations. Here is just one of the articles.
Many companies in Grady are probably using the technique. I would think Continental, Newfield, Marathon, etc. They may mention it in their quarterly reports.
Thank you for the information.
