Doddridge County, WV - Oil & Gas Discussion archives

Hi everyone. Add me to the list of people working on family mineral rights in Doddridge.

Per a family member’s estate, we are trying to figure out if we own 100% of a certain tract or 29% of all the tracts in the estate. If anyone has any advice in this area, I’d be glad to hear it.

There are probably separate shares then. Call and ask them what is on her tax bill.

Hey Chas, I sent the friend request. Did you get it? Did you mean you wanted to put the name and tax info here, or send to me? Glad to help but I need something to look up!

Nancy

Nancy–

I accepted the request yesterday. Would rather send you the info offline than posting it here.

Stephanie–

Thanks. Yeah, we went through that ourselves, too recently. You think the Assessor’s office can help us figure out exactly what rights we have?

Hmm. The tax ticket doesn’t mention anything fractional nor does it reference acreage. It just has a Map/Parcel #.

Nancy, that would be great. I’d be happy to share that information and I would appreciate the help.

Thanks Darin. Your story has me even more convinced that people need to be their own best friend and do as much research as possible and not trust the company. Not saying the companies try to cheat (altho some others’ experience shows that they sometimes do, right Stephanie P.?) but sometimes they get busy and these things can get very complicated in a hurry.

I’m lucky to have had the help I have had, and to have that subscription for information not easily available on the internet (the tax info).

Keep checking and searching. In most cases also you’ll find some good family history and “meet” some of your ancestors!

One would think a billion dollar corporation would have their act together. They just sit back and let the heirs do the work for them when there is a mistake. Is that what is known as cheap labor? From dealing with these people from their attorneys to land people, I would not want them working for me. One word that is probably at the top of their handbook is “liar”. To think that we signed mineral leases with these people… That’s a scary thought. The main reason we signed was, we were being sued by partition. We hate to see a company profit by being reckless in their actions and claims.

I think Arnold, Nancy and I could write a good book… We could call it; “The Good The Bad and The Ugly of Mineral Leasing”

Yes a book with all our adventures would be good reading!

I agree with Stephanie! We NEED a handbook:) You all could put it up as an e-book. I also agree that not only do they haul in some bucks, they are very profitable. They could share some of the info they already have, yet call proprietary, or they could at least try a little harder to ensure that their information is correct.

Nancy, I sent you a message.

Nancy- you are right. In my case, Antero missed my mother’s probated will in the database, that clearly connects me with all of the Dotson heirs. It was an honest mistake, as I could hear the DO analyst’s surprise that they did not catch it. I certainly think they are trying to do it right. But personal research is the only way to make sure!

Nancy is correct. I think that employees that work for companies like Antero and others are not the issue. They are humans and make mistakes. The folks you have to look out for are the ones who have lots of mineral rights and can never seem to get enough. Those are the folks I am dealing with. =(

I am hoping we will get that all sorted out in the next little while.

Off topic. I had a friend visit who worked on oil wells in TX a few years ago. He was explaining to me how often operators would force air/water (Honestly, I don’t remember which?) down into abandoned wells to cause pressure to cause neighboring wells to produce more. Has anyone ever head of a company doing this in WV? I think it is an interesting concept because my mineral rights tract has two abandoned wells and two producing wells. (The sad part is that we are paid more for the abandoned wells at this point than those that are actually producing!)

I have heard of sending down something (I can’t remember either) to stimulate old wells, not necessarily to get neighboring wells producing more. I think those things can happen, and when deeper wells are drilled, like these newer horizontal wells, it can improve production of the shallower wells above them. I have read of refracking wells, different thing but same hoped for outcome.

Talk about screw-ups: This morning I received a call from EQT wanting to renew a lease that I signed in 2010, well as it turned out Antero purchased that particular Map# and Partial from EQT several months ago and it has been permitted. Talk about the left hand not knowing what the right is doing???

Haha Arnold! So true

DT, we need a stinking handbook!

None of my family in that memorial. It is a nice way to honor folks who gave their lives for their country. I have an Army guy at my house. I am certainly glad that he probably won’t go to combat again before retirement.
