Rick, I was talking to my brother today about some ownership we have in 32 3n 3w. He told me that it is part of an old waterflood, and that no one could drill there due that. He said there is still one well there that is producing and that might be the problem. I didnt understand where he was coming from because I see people drilling into floods all the time.
I haven’t looked at the current wells or proposals in Garvin too much. We only have interest in a couple of sections. It is within the OIL areas on this map, so there is hope.
Patrick, most of that section (13/16) is in the NE Purdy Hart Sand Unit that was waterflooded and maybe had EOR with CO2 as well. In my section also part of the NE Purdy Hart, Anadarko drilled through that into the Woodford vertically in 1994. Long story short, I don’t think the waterflood will keep new drilling from happening. The question is what effect does the unitization have on the original lease. Does the fact that by unitizing the area, extending the production, and tying your well to the unit did it free up other zones from being HBP. If all zones under the unit are held by production then we will have to wait until the Newfields get around to drilling all other prospects and then go to deal with the Merits of the world. We will get no bonus and the RI that was signed for in 1950.
Maybe Don or someone will chime in.
I don’t know. I have also seen drilling into the waterflood areas.
I don’t see any production from the section since 2004. (unless it is part of an adjacent section unit).
Do you think that section is to far east to be included in the hot area here in n.e. stephens?
Lynden, could you please explain what “EOR” & “HBP” mean? Also, was all of the NE Purdy Hart Sand Unit flooded? We are in the very north, 21-4N-4W. I knew these RI’s my Dad had with Merit were old but are you saying they date back to 1950? So there might be new leases with new drillers? Or am I misunderstanding what you said?
Thanks for your help Lynden, I hadn’t really paid attention to what we had there, the check that comes from merit is quarterly, and if we are lucky it might be 400 a year. I believe it is only for gas. Maybe we wont have to wait for another 50 yrs.

rick: good map, thanks.
PRRO, EOR is enhanced oil recovery and HBP is held by production. It is my understanding that as long as a well is producing then the company that has that lease has control over the mineral rights within the leased acres. The leases that my Grandparents signed had no depth clause so I believe that the current leaseholder has the rights to develop the minerals at whatever depth for as long as the current wells are producing under the “held by production” concept. Where it may become tricky is when all of these leases of 40 and 80 acres are pooled into a unit such as the North East Purdy Hart or the North East Purdy Springer units (which have some overlap). You may have a well on your property that is not actually producing, it is plugged and abandoned, but you are being paid for that P&A well because of a formula back from when the unit was formed. What I don’t know is if unitization changes the situation in regards to other depths (formations).
They did flood the entire unit as best that they could. The purpose is to force the minerals to certain wells so they can be extracted. The reason for unitizing is to maximize production from the entire area. There is a power line that cuts across my grandparents old farm (sec 28, just south of you) that is called the Corn to Lindsay waterflood line that was built in about 1961. You can go to the OK Corp Comm website ‘well data browser’ to find out when your wells were drilled.
I will check that out-Thanks! And thanks for the detailed explanation, I understand the situation better now. My siblings & I have been scratching our heads, our father never talked about his MI’s so we are having to take a crash course!
Anybody know of any activity in, or around, 9 1N 2W in Garvin County or had any dealings with Triad?
All I know is that Triad has been around for a long time. They were in business when we were in business and we’re “older than dirt” my husband tells the grandkids! lol
01/26/1999 LEONARD 1-9 was that last well completed. It has been sold twice since then.
I saw a spud report for 32 3N 4W on the OCC site.
Hello everybody. I have mineral interest in township 4 north range 4 west sections 19, 33, 35. I am receiving royalty checks from Merit energy. The Purdy Springer sand unit is one of them. I was wondering if these areas are likely to have more drilling on them. Could they possibly drill some horizontal wells there. I am enjoying everybody’s posts. Tom
Thanks for the map. Activity all around it. I also have rights in 36 3n 5w and 25 3n 5w. Keeping my fingers crossed that something happens soon.
Spudded 9-21-2012 Colbert 1-32H 32-3N-4W Continental Resources James that meansthey have started drilling a horizontal well in section 32 next to you to the east.
18-3n-4w tested 204 BOD & 3100 MCF . from 4/15 to 7/25 it did 17,000 BOD & 275,740 MCF
Tom All of 35 and most of 33 except s/2 sw/4 & nw/4 sw/4 are in the Purdy unit. Some of 19 looks to be held by production. No new leasing there or 33. I have had lease offers in 4n 4w for other sections so they are looking at it.
