Reeves County, TX - Oil & Gas Discussion archives

I just want to say thanks so much for this site. For Buzz. The information provided has really helped educate my family on our mineral rights lease including how to track what is going on!

Marian – your H&GN RR Block 4, Section 64, 7.4 miles NNW of Pecos, is just south of intense Petrohawk activity 7-10.7 miles NW of Pecos where they have 6 rigs drilling horizontally. Recently, they received permits for two wells where the wellpad will setup on your Section 64 but the lateral would run under Section 61 on your east. Also, they applied for a permit on Section 33, adjacent to you on the north, where they recently drilled another well. It seems just a matter of time until they’ll drill on you (I hope!)… timing may depend on when you lease expires.

Thanks for the shout out… good forums require feedback both ways you know. Later – Buzz

PS – Question: Does the name Jess Bush ring a bell with you?

anyone hear of activity pending in or around BLK54 T4 SEC 30 OR 38 Thanks much

Phyllis, there shows to be a well drilled west of Sect 38 and south of Sect 30, but it was permitted quite a few months back (from memory).

I am in your area…who did you lease to please? We leased to Anadarko and they are doing nothing in Reeves county as best as I can tell. We have three tracts leased with them through October of 2013. Who knows if they will let them lapse?

thanks Buzz appreciate the info at least we are in the area it has been along dry spell

Anyone heard of any activity in section 44 block 57 township 3 abstract 3036, Section 46 block 57 township 3 abstract 3035. Thanks JW

Stephen, We leased to Energen we are leased till 2014 early spring… Yes who knows I can dream tho’ I wish we could get some info on the well near us. Stay in touch now Phyllis

Stephen/Phyllis – that location near Phyllis was permitted 2-25-11 by Anadarko: Sand Devil 54-4-37 #1H, API 289-32767, 14 miles NW of Pecos. I have no idea if the well was ever drilled. Energen has made it plain that they are concentrating east of the Pecos River. West of the river in Reeves, they did a 3-well joint venture in early 2012 with Petrohawk (BHP) where Energen contributed the acreage and 3 uncompleted wells. One of those wells – State 19-15 #1H – is ~6 miles East of your Section 30 (CSL Block C19, Section 15). Later – Buzz

Buzz, what is your opinion of what is going on in this area? PetroHawk is very active and appears optimistic, while others appear to be reluctant. Your thoughts?

Oops I meant directly east of 38 not west. Sorry. Energen knows what they are doing. Good luck.

Thanks again Buzz! You have confirmed what I have seen on the RR GIS map. I found the permit for two wells done in June 2012. I have talked with the landman who has confirmed Petrohawk building infrastructure (i.e. pipeline not quite completed) and plans to drill. He is suppose to let us know when. How do you track if/when drilling actually takes place?

Marian – I subscribe to a weekly well reporting service from RigData. Later – Buzz

==< … it seems very confusing to figure out how royalties might work for horizontal wells that cross two sections… >==

Marian – in the case here, although the surface location for the vertical portion of the well is drilled from your section, the lateral thru which potential production may occur is entirely in the adjacent section. You would expect a reciprocal well whose lateral is under your section, but drilled vertically from a surface location on that adjacent section. The idea is to get as long a producing lateral as possible under the adjacent section. Later – Buzz

Thanks Buzz, I am still a bit confused in that the wellbore is on our section as well as the permit but 2 wells show up two sections over??

I appreciate the new article in the monthy newsletter about tips for mineral owners. This helped a little as it seems very confusing to figure out how royalties might work for horizontal wells that cross two sections and how best to take next steps if the exploration is successful???

Has anyone heard of any activity in Section 4 block C18 directly West of Pecos?
All the best to fellow landowners.

Years ago Barnett shale and Woodford shale were the buzz words. Are these the old designation of Wolf Camp and Bone Springs?

Steve – you missed my reply on another group… “no, the Barnett and Woodford Shales are well below the Bone Spring and Wolfcamp formations.” Later – Buzz
