Shanthi,
Based upon our dealings with him, I would not hesitate to call/e-mail him after two weeks have passed. He is a very easy man to talk to and with us answered all questions. However he was and probably still is very busy. We started dealing with Petrohawk through Adam Sept 2011 and closed the deal in late March 2012. These things do take time.

Mr Matthews and Mr and Mrs Haag,
Thank you very much for the replies with the information. Yes I will wait for about 2 weeks before I callor email him.
Just keeping my fingers crossed! Thanks again
Shanthi Fernando
All – it seems like some here would benefit from a Midland Map Company “Ownership Map”. I obtain an updated one periodically: (432) 682-1603… they’ll take credit card or mail invoice if you are a past customer.
Generally, the map shows Survey/Block/Section (you need to provide this basic info or another landmark, town, etc.), Abstract No., mineral owner, surface owner (if different), latest leasor and when lease expires, # acres, whether it’s ‘mineral classified’, roads, railroads, towns, well locations, permit locations… what else do you need?
My favorite size is an 18" x 18" Plat, Scale 1" = 4,000’, which covers 175 square miles, more or less. COST = $42 + S&H ($12.50 cheapest). If that’s not large enough area, I would get more than one map. It’s handy to know that Reeves is divided into three map sections… Reeves ‘North’, ‘Central’ and ‘South’… if you straddle two sections on a single map there is an extra charge (almost like getting 2 maps). I do know that the boundary between Reeves Central and South is an East-West line running 7-8 miles south of Toyah. Maps are updated 4 times a year… the next scheduled courthouse visit for Reeves is/was ?-??-?? (ask) but it will take draftsman several weeks to update because there is so much activity… try to get the latest update even if you have to wait several days, so ask!
For whatever reason, Midland Map refers to Item Code “INSERT A”; 18x18 Plat-Reeves Central. Then describe a known point, e.g., ideally your Survey/Block/Section… Town of Toyah… or whatever (there aren’t many landmarks, ya know), and indicate you want that landmark to be in the Center, Center Bottom, Center Top, or whatever. The point is you and the person taking your order must be on the same landmark and where you want it located on your 18x18 Plat.
Hope this helps… I’m sure I forgot something! Later – Buzz
I have one of those maps too and it is indeed very helpful, especially if like my family your interests are scattered about and vary between surface, mineral classified, minerals only, royalty only. We use highlighters to identify the different interests and then put on little blue circle stickers where we have wells.
If any of the rest of you are thinking you would get such a map and mark it up like I do, I would recommend getting it laminated first so that any of your markings (especially erronous markings) can be erased easily. We didn’t do that the first time and made a few goofs, but ordered an updated map about a year ago and laminated it first.
To J. Matthews. How do I go about finding out who has leased the land around me, and who still needs to sign leases before the company can drill? Many thanks in advance.
Also, if you have multiple properties, you should do a mineral inventory with full legal descriptions. It helps in checking against the weekly reports issued by the Midland paper and others. E.g., http://www.mywesttexas.com/business/oil/completions/article_7bb68ae…
It also saves you from having to pull the maps out.
Tyring to determine if our mineral lease permit is pooled. In checking out the W-1 for the unitization/pooled box there is a N. What does that mean? I don’t see a P-12 attachment either? The Plat does not seem to indicate a “pool” either.
How up to date is the well permit/welbore status report for the RRC? There does not seem to be a status report related to the lease name using the W-1 that I am checking. The permit was approved July 12, 2012…to soon? Just trying to figure out how to check the status of the permit.
There is a video tutorial on the home page that shows you how to check. I think the RRC permits are updated on the website weekly, but not sure. The Odessa paper online publishes drilling permits by company weekly. http://www.oaoa.com/sections/permian-basin-drilling-report/?fabc=1&…
Thanks Wade…another interesting link. Here is what I found related to the approval date on the RRC including new language so I can’t tell if this is related to our lease as this language does not include any W-1 info- “Petrohawk Operating Co., Oxy Fee ‘24’, Reeves, New Drill; Hitchcock ‘45’, Midland, New Drill; Shafer ‘19’, Howard, New Drill.” Am I reading correctly that this report reflects approved permits only? or does it reflect actual drilling has begun? Any help on what this sentence is saying? Thanks. It may be that Buzz’s comment on the ownership map may help to determine what other lease holders may be involved in this “play”.
The number of permits Petrohawk has been pulling in Reeves and surrounding counties seems to be slowing. They have gotten active in Reagan and Crockett counties.
The listing in the Odessa paper just means they pulled permits. It does not mean drilling has commenced.
Our family has several leases with Petrohawk, and they have been reasonably good at notifiying us when drilling starts, so far. You can try to call them and get an update.
Speaking of Petrohawk… 4 September 2012: J. Michael Yeager, Chief Executive, Petroleum, presents at the Barclays 2012 CEO Energy-Power Conference in New York, USA.

Buzz,
I was listening to the CEO of bhp billiton MIcheal Yeager speaking on the internet site you have mentioned . He mentioned that Permian basin is the best and one of the largest areas for oil and gas drilling. I found out that Reeves county is in the core of permian basin.
Seems good news!
Other counties (in West Texas) where Petrohawk is permitting:
Culberson 13 and Loving 2. Currently they are drilling in Crockett (4); Loving (1) and Reeves (5). Supposedly, they have 26 rigs running in the Eagle Ford. Later – Buzz
The BHP powerpoint was interesting. Any guidance on how to track other mineral rights owners invovled in a play? Should that info be on a p-12 as an attachment to a w-1?
Here are the online reports from the Abilene, Odessa, and Midland papers. The Midland paper is probably the best, but has not updated for a couple weeks for some reason.
Abilene: http://www.reporternews.com/news/2012/sep/09/oil-report-992012/

It sounds like your lease gives them the right to pool your interest, but it would be necessary to look at the lease. On new drilling, the pooled units are normally formed before drilling.
